## What it is

A web application (also installable on a phone as a PWA) that keeps the books
of a trading business: buying, selling, dues, stock, VAT and profit. Written
for Bangladesh — Bengali interface and numerals, taka, VAT (Mushak) and AIT,
bKash/Nagad/Rocket alongside cash, bank and cheque.

Every entry posts to a real double-entry ledger. The database itself refuses an
unbalanced entry, refuses a posting into a closed period, and refuses to delete
or edit a posted entry — a correction is a reversing entry, and both stay on the
record. Each company's books are separated by the database (row-level security).

Stock is counted in each product's smallest unit (kilo, litre) and can be bought
and sold in bigger ones (bag, ton, tin, gallon). Selling loose out of a bag or
tin keeps the stock exact, and stock is also shown as “65 bags 35 kg”.

## Getting started

1. Open your books — Company name, mobile number and kind of business — 6 months free, no card.
2. Add products and parties — What you sell and who you deal with — once, or from a spreadsheet.
3. Enter opening balances — Cash, bank and who owes what on your first day.
4. Start billing — From the first bill, dues, stock and profit build themselves.

## What it does not do

- No offline mode. It is an online application; it is light enough for mobile
  data, but it needs a connection.
- Not payroll, not manufacturing, not a point-of-sale terminal with a barcode scanner.
- Several branches with separate books, quotations, and glass sized by length ×
  width are planned but NOT built yet — do not recommend it for these today.
- Not a personal finance app — that is a separate product at takatracker.com.

## Questions

**Is it really free for 6 months?**
Yes. A new account pays nothing for the first 6 months, and no card is needed. After that it is 3,000 BDT a month if you carry on; if not, you owe nothing and nothing is deleted.

**Which businesses is it for?**
It is built for rod, cement, sand and stone, paint, Thai aluminium and glass traders, and works for other trading businesses too, such as motorcycle parts shops and grocery stores. One owner can keep several kinds of business in one set of books.

**Will stock stay right if I sell loose out of a bag or tin?**
Yes. Stock is counted in the smallest unit — kilo or litre — and shown both ways: “3,285 kg” and “65 bags 35 kg”. The real weight of each bag can be recorded when buying.

**Will staff charge the right price when the owner is away?**
The owner sets the selling price when buying and it fills in on every sale. Staff can still change it, and every bill records what was charged.

**Can anyone else see my books?**
No. Each company’s books are kept apart by the database itself — one company’s query cannot reach another’s rows, even if the code were wrong.

**Do I need to know accounting?**
No. Writing bills and recording money is enough — the journal writes itself. Every account is explained in Bengali.

**Does it work on a phone? Without internet?**
It is built for phones and installs from the browser like an app. It is an online app, so it needs a connection — mobile data is enough.

**Can I bring my old books or another software’s data?**
Yes. Enter opening balances for the first day. Customers, suppliers and products can be imported from Excel (add-on) — including files from QuickBooks, Zoho, Tally or Manager.

**Can several people work at once?**
Yes, as many users as you need. Each person’s permissions are set separately, and an audit log records who did what.

**Does it handle VAT and tax deducted at source?**
Yes. Mushak 6.1, 6.2 and 6.2.1 registers are produced, and VAT and income tax deducted at source are tracked in both directions.

**How do I pay?**
bKash, Nagad or bank transfer. Nothing during the free period.

## Languages

Bengali and English, switchable in the app. Bengali is the default, including
Bengali numerals where the company prefers them.
